ESA Letter for Veterans in Colorado

An ESA does not erase what was carried. It can, however, hold steady company at home — the place where post-deployment, post-MST, and post-injury life is rebuilt one unremarkable morning at a time. We honor that work.

Independent of, & Compatible with, VA Care

Your ESA letter does not affect your service-connected disability rating, VA mental health treatment, or any benefits you receive. It is a civil housing accommodation issued by an independent Colorado-licensed clinician.

We coordinate with no government agency and do not report your evaluation to the VA. Your letter goes directly to you. You decide what to share with your VA team.

Veteran ESA FAQ — Colorado

Can a Colorado veteran get an ESA letter for PTSD?

Yes. Combat- and MST-related PTSD qualify under the FHA when symptoms substantially limit major life activities.

Will my VA benefits or rating be affected?

No. The ESA letter is a separate housing accommodation matter independent of all VA processes.

Is the ESA letter accepted at HUD-VASH and VA-affiliated housing?

Yes. These programs follow FHA rules; your Colorado-licensed clinician's letter satisfies the requirement.

Should I get a Psychiatric Service Dog instead?

If you need a dog trained to perform a specific task — combat-related panic interruption, nightmare interruption, public-access support — a PSD evaluation may be more appropriate. Many veterans start with an ESA for housing protection while training a future PSD.

What if I have an Other Than Honorable discharge?

Discharge status does not disqualify you from FHA accommodation.
