Our mission
Colorado Service Animals was founded to give Coloradans a trustworthy, affordable path to legitimate ESA letters and Psychiatric Service Dog evaluations — without the scam registry sites that sell worthless certificates.
Every evaluation is conducted by a Colorado state-licensed mental health professional (LCSW, LPC, or licensed psychologist) who reviews your questionnaire, assesses clinical need, and — when appropriate — signs and delivers your letter.
We are HIPAA compliant, HUD/FHA compliant, and proud to have helped more than 12,000 Coloradans access the housing and travel protections they are legally entitled to.
Our Colorado-Licensed Clinicians
Every evaluation is performed by a mental health professional holding an active Colorado state license. No out-of-state providers. No unlicensed staff.
All Colorado Service Animals clinicians are verified through the Colorado DORA (Department of Regulatory Agencies) license lookup before being onboarded. You can verify any clinician's license independently at dora.colorado.gov.
What Makes a Legitimate ESA Letter?
Not all ESA letters are created equal. A fraudulent or deficient letter will not hold up with a Denver landlord or Colorado housing authority.
What a Valid ESA Letter Includes
- Clinician's full name, license type, and license number
- Colorado state license — issued and active in the state where you reside
- Date of issuance (must be within the past 12 months)
- Your full legal name as the patient
- A statement of your qualifying mental health condition
- A statement that your pet is necessary for your emotional support
- Clinician's original (or electronic) signature and letterhead
- Clinician's direct contact information for landlord verification
Red Flags: Scam ESA Sites
- Instant approval with no questionnaire or evaluation
- "Certified ESA registries" — these have no legal standing
- Out-of-state clinicians signing Colorado letters
- No license number or verification contact provided
- Letters generated automatically (no clinical review)
- Charges before any evaluation or eligibility check
- No HIPAA protections or privacy policy
- Clinician credentials cannot be verified on DORA
