Record the personal difficulties and what the animal actually does in response.
Compare emotional support animals, psychiatric service dogs and therapy animals in Colorado. Describe the support accurately, check the rules for the destination and apply for a clinical letter assessment when documentation is needed.
The accommodation and relevant documentation.
The trained work and public-access standard.
The airline’s service-animal procedure.
A description such as support, service or therapy does not answer every access question. First identify whose needs the animal addresses and whether the question concerns a home, a public visit or a flight.

General companionship and comfort alone do not meet the ADA's task-training requirement. Describe what the dog has learned to do and why that action relates to the person's disability.
Consider the training process and its limitsA record of training and observed behavior is different from a product carrying the words “service dog.”
An animal visiting people in a therapeutic or community program is not automatically the handler’s service animal. A program’s approval does not create unrestricted public access.

Psychiatric service dogs fall within the trained-assistance distinction. Describe the learned action and its disability-related purpose rather than relying on the word psychiatric as a credential.
A clinician considers the clinical question presented. A letter cannot perform the dog's training or establish reliable behavior simply by naming a psychiatric condition.
Tell the evaluator whether the animal offers emotional support or performs an established disability-related task. Do not substitute a product label for that account.

A licensed professional assesses the clinical information; the service does not test or train the animal.
When the clinical decision supports a letter, email delivery provides the documentation for its stated purpose.

A service role does not eliminate the need for appropriate control and behavior. The handler remains responsible for the dog’s care; businesses are not required to act as animal caretakers.
Commercial cards, vests, certificates, and registry entries cannot replace the individual disability-related and training requirements. Read a product description before assuming it grants rights.
Housing evaluation, PSD-related documentation, and optional identification products address different requests. Read the plan description before deciding which, if any, matches your circumstances.

Colorado Service Animals does not offer an ESA registry. A professional evaluation determines whether documentation is appropriate; optional cards and certificates do not establish access rights.
When a service dog’s role is not apparent, the Department of Justice’s ADA FAQ allows two questions: whether the dog is required because of a disability and which work or task it has learned.
Answer the trained-work question using the dog’s actual action. Staff cannot require a task demonstration or ask for the person’s diagnosis under this public-access rule.
Housing documentation does not grant general public access. For a store visit, consult the applicable service-animal standard and the dog's actual trained work.
A diagnosis describes a clinical condition. It does not demonstrate that a dog has learned or reliably performs a disability-related action.
Permission to participate in one program concerns that program's visits. It does not create unrestricted entry rights for the animal and handler elsewhere.
An optional identification product does not establish a disability or train an animal. Evaluate the service or product on what it actually provides.
The ADA’s public-access guidance does not permit staff to demand a task demonstration. The permitted questions focus on disability-related need and the trained work when the role is not obvious.
No. The DOJ explains that service animals remain subject to applicable local vaccination and animal-control requirements. Check the municipality responsible for the dog’s residence.
For a disputed Colorado housing decision, consult CCRD about the one-year filing period stated in its housing notice. A public-access or airline complaint follows a different route.

Identify whether the question concerns support in housing, individually trained work, a therapy setting, or travel. Then use the professional and administrative process relevant to that role.
