Fly with a Service Dog from Colorado

Prepare to fly with a service dog from Colorado by checking the airline’s current instructions, task-training requirements and requested DOT forms. Plan the route through Denver International Airport and keep clinical documentation separate from the carrier’s transport decision.

Airline-specific instructions
Accurate task descriptions
Practical route preparation
Start with the booked journey.

A domestic connection, a codeshare and an international destination can create different planning questions. Record the full itinerary before checking requirements.

Check the carrier operating each flight

Read the airline’s current service-animal instructions for the booked flight. A codeshare can involve a different operating carrier from the name on the booking screen.

Booking

Identify the operating carrier

Keep the flight number with the airline actually operating it. A booking-site receipt can name a different company from the one handling the flight.

Connection

Check a change of airline

Contact each operating carrier on a mixed itinerary and retain its submission instructions with that segment.

Destination

Verify animal-entry requirements

For international travel, confirm the destination authority's current animal-health and entry requirements as well as the airline procedure.

Use the applicable DOT forms

An airline may require the DOT service-animal health, behavior, and training form. Flights of eight hours or more may also involve the relief-attestation form.

Animal information
Follow the current form instructions and the carrier's submission process.
A longer flight
Check the relief-attestation requirement for the specific flight duration.
Confirmation
Retain the submission and any response from the operating airline.

Make every declaration reflect the dog's actual status

Do not describe unfinished training as complete or use a commercial registry as evidence. The forms require truthful information about the animal and the relevant responsibilities.

Space on board

The dog must fit appropriately without blocking an aisle or emergency access. Discuss any concern with the airline before the travel day rather than expecting an automatic upgrade.

Requirements abroad

A route outside the United States can involve additional animal-entry and service-animal requirements. Confirm them with the responsible authorities before departure.

Plan the airport route with time for care

Allow time for check-in, security, and an animal relief stop. Ask airport or airline staff where the nearest service-animal relief area is located.

Build a delay plan before leaving home

Carry the supplies needed for the dog’s care and have a realistic plan for a long wait. Keep the animal controlled and consider its ability to tolerate the journey.

If a disability-accommodation problem arises

DOT advises passengers to ask for the airline's Complaints Resolution Official. That airline specialist can address an ACAA accommodation issue while the travel problem is occurring.

Clinical assessment Secure checkout Current catalog prices

Colorado Service Animals does not offer an ESA registry. A professional evaluation determines whether documentation is appropriate; optional cards and certificates do not establish access rights.

Clinical review before travel planning

Request an assessment for the clinical question

A Colorado PSD evaluation considers your disability-related need. It does not book the dog's passage or approve an airline form.

Describe the request
Use the free screening to explain daily limitations and the dog's established assistance.
Meet the reviewing clinician
A Colorado-licensed professional assesses the clinical information and asks for clarification where needed.
Receive the approved record
If a letter is approved, it is emailed to you. Complete the airline's separate process with accurate training and health details.

Departing through DEN

Locate a relief stop along your actual airport route

Denver International Airport's relief-area directory lists locations in the terminal and concourses. Check the current map against your departure gate instead of relying on a photograph or a previous trip.

  1. Before security

Identify an outdoor option near the terminal and leave time to return to the check-in route.

  2. After security

Find a concourse location near the route to the gate. Recheck the plan if your flight moves.

Questions about forms, flights and acceptance

Carrier requirements

Can a housing letter replace the airline's service-animal process?

No. The flight has its own service-dog standard and may require DOT forms. A clinical housing document does not replace those requirements.

Which airline should I contact for a codeshare?

Identify the airline actually operating the flight and check its current instructions. The company shown most prominently during booking may not operate every leg.

Why does the flight's duration matter?

For flights lasting eight hours or more, the airline may require the DOT relief-attestation form in addition to its other applicable service-animal paperwork.

Journey adjustments

Who can help with an airline disability-accommodation issue?

Ask the airline for its Complaints Resolution Official. This is a designated resource for disability-related air-travel issues, distinct from the issuer of a clinical letter.

Does a cabin-space problem entitle me to a free upgrade?

No automatic upgrade follows from traveling with a service dog. Discuss the dog's size and seating constraints with the operating airline before departure so the actual options are understood.

Can a gate change affect the relief plan at Denver?

Yes. Use DEN's current directory to identify a suitable stop along the revised route, and ask staff for assistance if the remaining connection time is limited.

Keep travel checks current until departure

A clinical document cannot guarantee transport when safety, behavior, health, or required-form conditions are not met. Resolve the airline’s actual requirements rather than buying another certificate.

Confirm the carrier's requirements before the travel day

Check the operating airline, forms, itinerary, and dog's readiness together. Use clinical services only for a relevant assessment question; the airline remains the source for its transport procedure.
