Colorado veterans can start with free ESA screening and compare current assessment fees. Describe the animal’s support in your present residence while keeping private documentation, benefits and training programs distinct.
A veteran's animal-related housing question can arise during a move, a return to civilian life, or a change in an existing residence. Start by naming the housing arrangement and the office handling its accommodation requests.
Military service may be relevant background. It does not replace the explanation of a current disability-related need or establish which animal process a particular property uses.
CSA offers a free initial screening, while the ASA clinical services shown below have listed fees. The screening is not a free issued letter, and military status does not automatically remove the service charge.
Describe an activity at home that has become difficult and what changes when the animal is involved. Include the practical effect, not only a label from a diagnosis or benefits record.

These are private ASA documentation options. Review the included assessment and documents separately from any benefit, training organization, or housing program you may be considering.

Colorado Service Animals does not offer an ESA registry. A professional evaluation determines whether documentation is appropriate; optional cards and certificates do not establish access rights.
A full military history is not the starting point for every animal accommodation. Ask what information is needed and why, particularly when a request involves sensitive records.
Prepare the functional context, the animal's role, and relevant history requested for clinical review.
Identify the accommodation being sought and ask about supporting documentation for that request.
Use that administrator's instructions. A private clinical review does not enroll you in its services.

Describe the comfort or companionship relevant to the home. That experience does not, by itself, establish an individually trained disability-related task.
Review the housing frameworkExplain what the dog is trained to do and how it assists you. The task and the access setting matter; a certificate purchase cannot supply the training.
Read the veterans' PSD guidance
Confirm who handles daily care, how supplies travel, and what contact can help with veterinary needs.
Arrange an available caregiver rather than assuming a housing provider or program will take responsibility.
Tell the reviewer if the home, support arrangement, or animal's role is different from the account originally supplied.
The exercise photograph is illustrative animal-care imagery, not evidence of disability-task training or an endorsement of an exercise method.
Free screening helps present the individual housing question. A military history can supply context, but the assessment still needs an account of current functioning and animal support.
Identify the residence, the animal and the difficulty for which you are seeking support.
A Colorado-licensed professional evaluates the case separately from benefit eligibility or a service-dog training program.
When clinically approved, documentation is emailed to you. Neither veteran status nor a paid plan guarantees approval.
The Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs' county office directory lists local contacts that provide free assistance with veterans' claims, applications and appeals.
Use the county listing to confirm an office's contact details and ask about the particular benefit question. That assistance is a different service from buying a private ESA assessment.
No. The clinician evaluates the individual disability-related housing need and animal support. Military history or a benefits determination does not replace that assessment.
No. This is a clinical documentation service through ASA. VA programs and service-dog training have their own purposes and requirements.
Do not assume that a complete military record is necessary for an animal accommodation. Ask what supporting information is relevant and discuss the request with a qualified adviser if uncertain.
Identify the home involved and the everyday activities relevant to your request. Military service can be part of the context, but the animal’s actual contribution needs its own explanation.
No. The initial screening and the paid clinical service are different stages. Review the current fee and what it includes; an issued document depends on the professional's findings.
The state's county Veterans Service Office directory provides local contacts for free help with claims, applications and appeals. Ask that office about the benefit involved; its assistance does not make a private ESA letter automatically free.
For veterans exploring a private Colorado housing assessment; reviewed October 2026. This page is not legal advice or medical advice. Check the responsible local authority because requirements can change. Screening does not guarantee a letter, and CSA has no affiliation with military agencies, public benefits offices or housing associations. Crisis counseling is available by calling or texting 988 .
Describe the support the animal provides in your present home and identify relevant clinical care. Keep benefit determinations and service records separate unless the evaluator explains why particular information is needed.
